What are the Check-in and Check-out times?
  • Cottages: Check-In: 3:00 PM | Check-Out:10:00 AM
  • Trailers & Tents: Check-In: 1:00 PM | Check-Out:11:00 AM
  • Boats: Daily rentals must be returned 20 minutes before sunset. 

REMINDER:
  • Please call ahead to arrange arrivals after 6:00 P.M.
  • Check-In and Check-Out times are strictly observed for the comfort of other guests. 
  • No adjustments will be made for late arrivals or early departures. 
  • Guests are requested to advise their approximate arrival time at the time of booking. 
What payment methods do you accept?

What is the Cancellation Policy?
  • 15+ Days notice: Full refund.
  • 5 to 14 days Notice: 50% refund
  • Less than 5 days notice: No refund
  • Note: A refundable security deposit of $50 per person per stay is required for all bookings. 
Do you provide Linens and Towels?
Yes, we provide fresh linens and towels for a fee of $15 per person per stay. Please feel free to bring your own to save. 
Is the kitchen fully equiped?
Yes. Every cottage kitchen includes basic silverwares, pots, and pans for maximum occupancy of that unit. 
  • Appliances: Refrigerator, Microwave, Gas cooking stove, BBQ, Toaster, Kettle, Drip Coffee Machine. 
  • Not Provided: There are no dishwashers, washers, or dryers. A hair dryer is available upon request. 
Is the water safe to drink?
Yes. We use a chlorinated well water system that is safe for consumption. You are welcome to bring your own bottles, and we also sell water in our convenience store.
Do you sell Firewood and Propane?
We sell firewood at our convenience store. Propane for the cottage BBQs is provided free of charge.
What is your Pet Policy?
We welcome one pet per cottage at a rate of $25 per pet per day. Pets must be on a leash and under supervision at all times when outdoors. Owners are fully responsible for their pets.
Can i have day visitors?
Yes. Visitors are subject to a $35 per day fee, or $50 per day if they are using a Day Pass for resort facilities.
Is swimming allowed in the lake
Rice Lake contains significant weed growth; therefore, swimming in the lake is not recommended. Sunny Shades Resort (SSRS) does not take responsibility for guests or visitors who enter the lake.

Swimming Guidelines

• Swim only during daylight hours.
• Children must be supervised by an adult at all times.
• No swimming during storms, strong winds, or poor visibility.
• Alcohol consumption and swimming do not mix  please be responsible.
 
Entering the Water

• Lake bottoms may be uneven, muddy, or slippery.
• Enter the water slowly; avoid diving unless clearly marked as safe.
• Watch for rocks, logs, weeds, and sudden drop-offs.
• Water shoes are recommended for comfort and protection.

Water & Weather Awareness

• Lake water temperature can change quickly  cold water shock is possible, especially early spring and fall.
• If you feel numb, dizzy, or overly cold, exit the water immediately.
• Obey all posted weather advisories and staff instructions.

Boats & Watercraft

• Swim only in designated swimming areas.
• Stay clear of boats, jet skis, kayaks, and fishing zones.
• Do not swim beyond marked buoys or boundaries.

Wildlife & Environment

• The lake is a natural environment fish, insects, and plants are normal.
• Do not feed wildlife.
• Avoid swimming near weed beds or spawning areas.
• If you encounter wildiife, remain calm and give space. Clean & Safe Water Practices
• Shower or rinse before swimming when possible.
• Do not swim if you have open cuts, infections, or illness.
• Use reef-safe / eco-friendly sunscreen to help protect water quality.

Emergency Information
 
• In case of emergency, call 911 immediately.
• Notify resort staff as soon as possible.
• Life-saving equipment is located at designated safety stations.

Use at Your Own Risk

• Lake swimming is not supervised by a lifeguard.
• Guests swim and use the lake at their own risk.
• The resort is not responsible for accidents resulting from failure to follow posted safety guidelines.
 
What is required for boat use?
We provide life jackets with every boat rental. It is mandatory to wear life jackets at all times in both motorized and non-motorized boats. All guests using the pool or lake facilities must sign a Liability Waiver. SSRS is a non-supervised facility; everyone is responsible for their own safety.
What are the Septic and Garbage rules?
  • Septic System: Our resort runs on a sensitive septic system. Only flush water, human waste, and toilet paper. Strictly NO grease, wipes, feminine hygiene products, or solids. Penalties apply for violations.
  • Garbage/Recycling: Please place metals and glass bottles in the designated recycling bins. All other waste, including cardboard and paper, goes into the general garbage.
Can I purchase a day pass to access the resort?
Yes! Our day pass allows guests to enjoy the heated pool, hot tub, sauna, kids’ park, and indoor/outdoor games for a full day. Day passes start from CAD 50.
Can I host an event or wedding at the resort?
Yes, Sunny Shades Resort provides venues and full-service planning for weddings, corporate events, and private parties.
Can Sunny Shades Resort & Spa accommodate large groups?
Yes! We welcome groups of all sizes, including family reunions, corporate retreats, weddings, and special events. Our accommodations, cottages, and trailer spaces can be booked together to host large parties comfortably.
What types of group accommodations are available?

Yes! Our team can help plan weddings, corporate events, team-building activities, and other group gatherings. We provide venues, event coordination, and optional add-ons to ensure your group experience is seamless and memorable.
